This Little Light of Mine

This assignment was to shine a bright light on one side of your face and then draw (with white colored pencil on black paper) only where the light shines on your face. When this was assigned I thought that it would be really hard, but I actually found it easier than drawing someone else's face on regular white paper. The different intensity of light adds a certain reality to the drawing. I like it.

Pencil Me Please

This is my pencil box. It has four compartments. One for colored pencils, one for drawing pencils, one for regular pencils, and one for the shorter pencils. I chose to leave it black because I didn't want the color of the box to compete with the pencils. I really enjoyed this project. I admit that it was a challenge to make the clean edges and avoid glue marks, but I ended up with a project that I am proud of.

These are my most recent profile drawings, Lauren from class and my friend down the hall Kelly.

These are my profile drawings. One is of my room mate Amber and the other one is of my best friend Casey. These are surprisingly easy for me. Graphing out the face makes it so much easier. Profile drawing is probably my favorite type of drawing that we have done so far.

These are the drawings of people that we were assigned in drawing class. I found these extremely difficult and frustrating. I would get started on a drawing and be about half-way through and then the people that I had been drawing would just get up and leave and I would be forced to start all over. I remember one time I was drawing two people who were sitting across from each other and half-way through my drawing, they got up and switched places. AHHHH!!

Egg Project

This is my egg project. The assignment was: Create a place for an egg that celebrates one quality of the egg using only paper. The quality of the egg that I chose to celebrate was its round shape. I did this by contrasting it with all the triangles of the pyramid-type structure that I built. Every piece of the structure is a triangle. The two middle triangle are made out of white poster board. I did this to show that there was a definite place for the egg. The outside triangles are made from tan vellum.
I have to admit that I hated this project at first, but when I saw the end result I really liked it. I loved seeing all of my classmates' models and ideas. This project taught us to really think outside the box . It also taught us that we have to think about who/what we create places for, in this case the egg, which is really important in the area of Interior Architecture.

Down Town Contour #4

This one was really hard for me. It turned out okay, but when I was almost done, I realized that there was a bench directly in front of me! I didn't want to leave it out, so I just drew it on top of everything else... so it is a see-through bench.

Down Town Contour #3

Okay, I think this was the best drawing of the day, maybe it is because it is the simplest also, with just one building and a bunch of trees in the front. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Down Town Contour #2

I chose the building for my second drawing because I thought it would be a challenge... and it definitely was. I tried to capture the angles and different dimensions of the building but it didn't exactly work out the way I pictured. Oh well, I guess everything is a learning experience.

Down Town Contour #1

With all the downtown drawing I sat in or around the park. It was a great opportunity because of all the trees and flowers in the foreground, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't find it a little more challenging.

Negative Space Drawing: Upside Down Bike

So this is my "negative space bike." The hardest part of drawing this was the wheels. I couldn't get them the right size and I can never draw anything that looks remotely like a perfect circle. That if gonna take some practice, but hopefully one day I will master it.

Second drawing of the New Science Building

Okay, so this is the second drawing of the New Science Building. There are some new parts of the building in this drawing because I moved down the sidewalk quite a bit. I liked the angle that I drew in this picture better than the last.

First Contour Drawing of New Science Building

This is the first drawing that I did of the New Science building. After drawing it, I realized that I wasn't looking at the building from the best angle.

View Out The Window

This is the first landscape contour drawing that I did. I drew it of the view out the window of my workspace in the studio. I found it a lot easier than I thought it would be. The best tip that I received when drawing it was to start at the skyline and work your way in from there.
